Compass has a long tradition of successfully developing and repositioning a broad range of properties throughout the United States. Formed in 2003 by Bob Godard with an original business plan to develop regional distribution centers in Atlanta and other Southeastern cities, the company has continuously evolved to capture market opportunities. We have developed, acquired and/or financed every major property type in cities and towns throughout the United States. We also have sponsored a series of private equity funds, with a total investment capitalization of more than $500 million.
After fifteen years of success across a broad spectrum of assets, in 2018 Compass committed to focus on developing a portfolio of innovative, sustainable, intergenerational, mixed-use communities in vibrant, walkable urban areas. Many of our new communities are located in qualified opportunity zones, which provide the potential for positive social impact and exceptional risk-adjusted and tax-adjusted returns with investment durations that fit our portfolio aggregation strategy. As such, we intend to capitalize many of our new communities with qualified opportunity zone funds.
